Colitis and Crohn’s Symptoms

Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative colitis (Pancolitis) are very similar in causes as well as treatment since many of the problematic symptoms are reoccurring to both conditions. Symptoms of Crohn’s may range from mild to severe affecting any segment of the alimentary canal, from the esophagus to the anus (but typically affects the last portion of the small intestine, referred to as the ileum. Symptoms of Colitis will be lighter than Crohn’s, as can be solutions, and regulated to the lower quadrant of the large colon and rectum. A permanent solution can only be achieved by incorporating natural treatment protocols that addresses the body and person as a whole.

First let’s look at Crohn’s and Ulcerative colitis (Pancolitis) warning signsanatomy-160524_640 to be on the look out for. Initially you would start to feel unwell due to your immune system over working trying to deal with unwanted substances or pathogens. From a different perspective, inflammation may be a direct cause as a result from a bout of chronic stress, in such cases; your own bile acid can be an initial culprit that acerbates symptoms of inflammation that lead to pain and diarrhea. Once a disruption in your normal rhythm starts to occur you will feel more fatigued and even anxious as symptoms systemically show up that affect your daily lifestyle and routines.

Crohn’s and Ulcerative colitis are also referred to as Inflammatory Bowels Diseases (IBD). These symptoms were first labeled by a physician (B.B. Crohn) in the 1932 from where it got its name. The main difference between these two disease complaints is location and how degenerative the mucosal lining has become. However both conditions have a connection with fistulas and abscesses.

Colitis typically has lighter symptoms and normally involves the lower portion of the large colon and anal area. Colitis symptoms will follow the (Top 10) early signs and symptoms of Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative colitis.

The following are but a few question samples, whereby, being a holistic doctor, I would ask in the initial process of symptom treatment with the ultimate goal for sustained solutions and full disease reversal.

  1. Do you have any food allergies
  2. Do you have any pain and inflammation
  3. Do you have Diarrhea or bleeding- when and how often
  4. How frequency are bowel movements
  5. What is the frequency and duration of pain
  6. Gas or bloating
  7. Timing of symptoms: When are they worst
  8. List other associated complaints such as anxiety, stress and fatigue levels
  9. What can you eat
  10. What foods bother you the most
  11. Are you taking any supplements
  12. What medications (if any) are you takingyogurt-387454_1280

  1. Stomach and Abdomen Pain

An early sign of Crohn’s and Ulcerative colitis diseases is cramping, gas, bloating and abdomen pain.

  1. Diarrhea

When a bout of diarrhea shows up for no apparent reason, you will automatically wonder if you picked up a flu bug or virus and not necessarily think you have contracted a gut dysbiosis disorder. When diarrhea doesn’t seem to go away you should then look into the possibility of a gastrointestinal problem.

* In my book Reverse Gut Diseases Naturally, view chapter 5 and 11 for the perfect natural solutions and remedies to stop Diarrhea and Bleeding.

  1.  Raised Body Temperature or Fever

  2. The body’s temperature will rise in accordance to infection or some form of pathogen it is trying to eradicate. This is our natural defense system going into action. If fever type symptoms often accompany gut pain, you may have the onset of Crohn’s or Ulcerative diseases.

If the body temperature is persistently low, this can also accompany Crohn’s or Ulcerative colitis conditions since the ileum is often involved with both conditions, but primarily with Crohn’s. The vitamin B12 is absorbed through the ileum, therefore, if B12 becomes low in a person’s body, one would experience a lower iron (ferritin) count which would cause low blood pressure, (which is often associated with a low hemoglobin levels).

    1. Appetite Decrease

Whenever the body is fighting for its life, (as it is with Crohn’s andjuice-1006460_640 Ulcerative colitis) all the energy that can be spared will be diverted to the immune system. It takes allot of energy to digest food, thereby the appetite often declines especially the more ill a person becomes. This is the case with many chronically ill patients. Also the less you eat the less you want to eat. This is common problem with our aged population (not eating a well balanced or adequate diet).

    1. Night Sweats and Flushes

The most common and well known night sweating complaint is associated with women during menopause. And the thyroid gland is involved whether it is during the night or daytime. Excessive sweating for instance is thyroid related along with missing dietary elements needed for proper body functioning. However, it has been noted that when there is an irritation in the gut or bowels, night sweats can occur. (This is not a complaint that is often relayed to me).

    1. Feeling of Poor Elimination from the Bowel

The feeling of still not being adequately emptied, even though you have had a bowel movement can be a symptom of IBD. Unlike the above symptom complaint this is one that I do often hear from patients with Crohn’s, Ulcerative colitis, Colitis and Diverticulitis. The sensation is most annoying and sometimes people stay on the toilet far too long which can bring about ruptured capillaries (causing bleeding) or hemorrhoids.

    1. Weight Loss

Weight loss is one of the main problems associated with intestinal diseases. When the food is passing through the gut too quickly as a result of diarrhea or the gut has become too permeable, nutrient loss occurs. The body cannot manifest tissue or function properly when it isn’t being nourished adequately. The weaker the body becomes, so too will the enhancement of Crohn’s and Colitis symptom complaints.

    * Finding something to eat is a primary focus. In my book Reverse Gutbreakfast-drink-642121_1280 Diseases Naturally, I have individual dietary protocols and solutions for these conditions and others found in the book. The preparation and level of nourishment is key in the initial healing process. Malnutrition must be corrected for a speedier recovery and ultimately for a full disease reversal.

As symptoms worsen, it becomes harder to find something to eat that doesn’t cause discomfort or symptoms of diarrhea. As a result people tend to eat less as a preventative measure hoping to ward off symptoms.

    1. Frequent Bowel Movements

The frequent urge to eliminate is a constant stress for individuals suffering with Crohn’s and Ulcerative colitis conditions. The mere thought of not feeling safe when out and about, will bring on a sense of urgency. Wondering where a restroom facility is becomes a priority when away from home. This of course will automatically bring on the sensation of urgency due to the fact that our bowels are triggered by our thoughts and emotions. This is a common occurrence for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) patients.

    1. Bloody Stool

As the integrity of intestinal tissue degrades the accompanying symptom of bleeding is more common with the conditions of Crohn’s and Ulcerative colitis. Fine capillaries will burst from inflammation or pressure or from the degeneration of the intestinal mucosal lining. Through holistic healing methods, as the intestinal lining heals and becomes stronger, these fine capillaries are protected and the bleeding ceases.

    1. Constipation

I rarely see constipation associated with conditions such as Crohn’s or Ulcerative colitis. Although it is noted that this occurrence can and does take place; too frequent bowel movements and bouts of diarrhea are far more commonplace.

Ischemia Affects Crohn’s, Ulcerative colitis and Colitis diseases

The colon is surrounded by a layer of muscle which requires a constant supply of blood, oxygen and nourishment, enabling it to continue moving fecal matter along its hollow interior. If the colon does not maintain a sufficient blood supply, it will become Ischemic (isch= restricted + emia=blood supply). Inflammation is a common outcome of Ischemia

A lack of blood supply that results in Ischemia, promotes pain, diarrhea, possible bleeding and fever.

    Symptoms of Colitis

Under ideal and normal circumstance, the millions of microbial bacteria-106583_1280population reside in harmony within the colon and small intestine. However when an invader such as an antibiotic or virus/parasite enters this environment, the delicate balance can be drastically disturbed.

Examples of common microbes that may cause Colitis are as followed:

    1. Campylobacter
    2. E. Coli
    3. Shigella
    4. Yersinia
    5. Salmonella
    6. C. difficile

Today we have a more common cause related to the effects of antibiotics. Clostridium difficile, also known as (C. diff), is the bacterial consequence of antibiotics resulting in the condition colitis. The existing bacteria in the colon are highly susceptible to the antibiotics which then allow the clostridia to proliferate unchecked; the outcome being colitis.

    * In my book Reverse Gut Diseases Naturally, contains the very best and safest cures and solutions to destroy superbugs and C-diff; also replacing any need for antibiotics.

The above bacteria that promote colitis may have come fromhealth-621354_1280 contaminated food or from medications. Pain medications, anti-inflammatory drugs and antacids are known contributors to colitis and other gut disorders.

Common symptoms for colitis include diarrhea, sometimes bleeding, abdominal cramps, gas, bloating, pain, inflammation, fever, and dehydration, along with a list of nutrient deficiencies.

Nutrient loss stems from watery stools and too frequent bowel movements, plus a person’s diet becomes increasingly limited as symptoms progress.

Apparently when looking at a worldwide view, the most common parasite illness to cause colitis is Entamoeba histolytica. It is contracted by drinking water infected with this parasite and also from person to person due to poor hygiene and sanitation.
