Ulcerative Colitis Crohn’s Disease Holistic Approach and Solutions

The term inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) includes a set of gastrointestinal disorder conditions which are characterized by chronic intestinal inflammation. The cause of this inflammation is unknown or idiopathic, although it is shown that there is an autoimmune reaction in the origin of the disease. Thus, the immune system triggers a reaction against the intestinal organ itself; in this case, substances going into the body are being attacked once they ventured into areas they should never be found in – like the protein gluten passing through the intestinal wall into the blood. Observe how the thyroid gland and gluten – together – promote an autoimmune condition in the body other than gut related.

Crohn’s Disease – Ulcerative Colitis (Pancolitis)

The two major inflammatory bowel diseases include Ulcerative colitis (Pancolitis) and Crohn’s disease. There are several differences between both: While Cohn’s disease affects any part of the gastrointestinal tract from the mouth to the anus, Ulcerative colitis affects any part of the bowel continuously from the rectum into the small intestine covering most of the large colon.

Colitis

Colitis that does not involve the ileum is regulated to the large colon and typically affects the descending and sigmoid colon as well as the rectum and anus region.

IBD Incidence

Canada rates number 1 in the world for Crohn’s disease due to antibiotic abuse.

The UK and USA are close behind.

Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s disease – 1 person out of 20 is hospitalized each year.

Crohn’s patients fall into the same risk category of premature death as the average smoker.

Symptoms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease – Crohn’s – Ulcerative Colitis

Crohn’s disease commonly affects the small intestine. Inflammatory bowel diseases exhibit symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting, fever that leads to dehydration and weight loss, and abdominal pain. Also, when IBD conditions persist, bouts of bleeding is often commonplace. Both diseases involve chronic diarrhea, although the symptoms are more intense in the “active” period of the disease, when there is more inflammation. There may also be a period of “remission” without any symptoms.

Both ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease are chronic, comprising copious amounts of microbial that have seeped into the small intestine, infiltrating the ileum. When the gut becomes overrun with microbes, absorption of nutrients is compromised, especially B12 since the ileum is the area that absorbs this vitamin. Allopathic treatment aims to control symptoms of the disease via pharmaceutical agents and surgery. Drugs leading to more drugs is a common scenario. Symptoms worsen as the body continues to degenerate.

As a result of malabsorption; malnutrition becomes one of the main areas to correct. A body cannot rebuild and sustain itself without sufficient required elements. This is common sense. Look at your diet. Do you think you are feeding yourself adequately with enough required nutrients for functioning and balancing? I personally have not found anyone who suffers with a chronic disease to be doing so. The majority of the public isn’t aware of how to go about this task since we are not taught this information during our academic years. Look for my posts on Malnutrition and other nutrition related posts. There are several.

Beware, that any condition where a prolonged period of malnourishment has taken place, additional supplementation will be required to bring the body back to a proper functioning state – either temporally or indefiantly. There are certain items that are not in our food or in sufficient amounts that we must consider like the fish oil, thyroid support (iodine unless you have hyperthyroidism) and natural vitamin and mineral sources.

Look for my whole food supplements in Post titled: Malnutrition: Best Whole Natural Supplements and Fiber posts (1 – 2); Best Health series to nutritionally enhance the healing process. And the most important minerals Magnesium and the post on Zinc.

Causes of Inflammatory Bowel Disease

The excrement produced by these over abundant bacteria is what degrades the intestinal lining.

The carrier protein for Magnesium is often impaired with conditions of IBD. This is an enormous problem since magnesium is involved with more bodily functions than any other mineral. Zinc is next in its demand for bodily functions and is also a required mineral for healing tissue and immune response.

Antibiotic Abuse: The cause of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) hastablets-532351_1280 not yet been determined according western (allopathic) medicine. For this reason there are diseases called of unknown cause or idiopathic. Despite this, researchers and holistic practitioners have identified predisposing factors and causes. Some factors increase the likelihood that the person’s immune system develops an inflammatory reaction in the intestinal tract. As a result of this response, the intestinal wall is damaged. This is the cause of diarrhea, bleeding and abdominal pain characteristic of these inflammatory bowel diseases. The main culprit to date is the over use of antibiotics. The WHO organization has declared the era of antibiotics is over. Nature provides the remedy in this area of medicine that works on all bacteria and superbugs.

Other causes are severe bouts of stress brought on by emotional trauma. Physical causes are tailbone injury even from childhood. Examples are ice skating, hockey and falling off a swing.

Overuse of other medications will promote intestinal and GI damage leading to leaky gut syndrome.

Refer to posts for Safe Natural Remedies to Destroy Superbugs, C-difficile and Staph. All of which replace antibiotics being that the before mentioned are antibiotic resistant.

Food Intolerances – Food Allergy

Food allergies and sensitivities play a paramount role in all aspects andbread-257148_1280 stages of bowel disorders. Regardless of a food or substance being the initial culprit, at some stage certain items find their way into areas that they are never to be found in, such as the blood. Food also feeds the microbial in the gut which includes the yeast population. The more impaired digestion becomes the more proliferation of microbes by way of undigested sugars in the gut. One of the causes of intestinal inflammation is the result of a food allergy.

Genetic Predisposition

There is a tenfold risk for close relatives. Despite this, there has not been an identified gene that determines the development of inflammatory bowel diseases.

Causes Infectious

Pathogens (microorganisms) have been proposed assumptions that could cause Ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease, but further studies have to be done. Unless it is foreign bacteria from antibiotics, the only related pathogens for Crohn’s that I have dealt with were from patients visiting a Caribbean island or other far away place where they come in contact with a pathogen that the immune system can’t handle .

Immune Process

A pathological process can produce an inadequate exposure of the gut’s immune system to specific antigens (for example, the protein in cow’s milk) giving rise to an immune-mediated injury. Missing enzymes associated with certain foods and nutrients would over time promote an over reactive immune response, eventually causing intestinal damage. The intestines are not the only area that is put at risk or affected.

Thyroid/Gluten – Immune Response

An example of an auto immune response that involves gluten, (the gut and the thyroid gland) and interrelates with some gut disorders. The protein gluten is an identical matrix to the tissue of the thyroid gland. When the body has gluten intolerance like all of those with Celiac disease, sometimes an auto immune response occurs resulting in “Inflammation of the Thyroid gland” such as Thyroiditis or Hashimotto’s disease. Because the thyroid gland is virtually the same as gluten, the body attacks the thyroid gland as well, miss reading it as gluten. Hence dietary influences should never be taken lightly or disregarded

Emotional Traits

In exacerbations or flares of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), emotions influence the course of the disease. Psychological tensions tend to magnify the symptoms of Ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease and most other gut complaints.

Anyone suffering with a chronic illness that has altered their way of living would be expected to succumb to feeling less than optimal.
