Natural Solutions for Burning Feet Syndrome

Medical term is Erythromelalgia, burning feet syndrome induces feet to suddenly burn and reddens with heat. There are specific nutrients that are often missing and for sometime if you suffer with this condition – learn how to correct this condition and of the imbalances that could be involved.

For some, the burning is an intensely painful experience while others, it may only be bothersome. Walking on a cold floor relieves symptoms and feels soothing. With this condition the feet feel, quite hot to the touch and often appear swollen. Test various cooling applications and raising the legs usually offers some relief. People experience burning feet most commonly at night.

Causes

Most cases of burning feet syndrome are due to circulatory and nervous system problems. Persons suffering from diabetes, polyneuropathy of the nerves, liver problems, high blood pressure, blood sugar imbalances or a B-vitamin deficiency are most susceptible.

Nutrition

Burning feet are a symptom of thiamine (vitamin B1) deficiency in some cases. Thiamine is not stored by the body and must be provided daily through the diet. The best sources are whole grains, Nutritional yeast, brown rice, peanuts, raw wheat germ, green and yellow vegetables and milk.

Poor circulation can be improved through a radial change in diet to a whole foods regimen of natural, fiber rich, unrefined living foods including plenty of raw fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds. Raw foods supply enzymes and antioxidants, the immune system boosters which help the body absorb vitamins and minerals.

Nutritional Supplementation

Painful burning feet are often the result of nerve or circulatory problems. A lack of either pantothenic acid or vitamin B6 will cause the feet to burn. When supplementing with any B vitamin, it is best to add the entire complex to prevent further imbalances. B vitamins like to be in balance with each other.

Omega 3 fatty acids are a staple today to maintain any semblance of health. Take twice a day with food from a marine source.

Iodine is paramount for thyroid hormone production and the thyroid gland is directly involved in circulation. Without iodine, the thyroid gland cannot make TSH. Take 3 times a day for optimum overall health benefit.

If the problem lies in poor circulation from arteriosclerosis or diabetes, vitamin E is recommended to improve the blood’s oxygen supply. Vitamin C is useful, as it helps combat the effects of toxic substances on the body. Chromium helps regulate blood sugar instability, required for sugar regulation and fat metabolism. These vitamins need to be taken for several weeks for noticeable results. Continue for a few months after the problem has resolved. In addition, the diet must be addressed to ensure that these vitamins are adequate at all times or at the very least continue with appropriate supplements of key nutrients.

Suggestion dosage:

Vitamin B complex, 50 mg

Vitamin B6 or Pyridoxal 5 Phosphate, 50 mg or 100mg

Vitamin E, with mixed tocopherols, 400 IU twice daily

Vitamin C. with bioflavonoids, 1,000 mg three times daily

Herbal Remedies

Herbal remedies can assist a proper diet in stimulating circulation and relieving burning feet. If there is no known cause, bathe the feet in a mallow or sanicle infusion. (mallow, sanicle are herbs)

Hawthorn improves circulation by dilating blood vessels. Take 1 tbsp. of juice or 20-25 drops of tincture with water before breakfast and before bed. Hawthorn is effective with long term application of three months or more and does not cause side effects.

Homeopathy

As homeopathy is specific to each person’s individual symptoms, below is a sample of the several prescribed remedies. Homeopathy remedies come in 6c, 12c strengths for non-professional usage whereas a practitioner can purchase 200c in certain preparations. Choose one according to the symptoms in the 6c strength, three times daily for up to three weeks. If the condition does not improve within one month, consult an experienced homeopath.

  • Take Apis for burning stinging feet that look puffy.
  • Chamomilla is useful for hot and sweaty feet made worse with anger.
  • Graphites helps burning feet made worse by walking.
  • Take Pulsatilla for burning feet that are relieved by lying down and made worse by heat and by dangling the legs.
  • Use Silcea for a burning sensation that is worse at night but the feet are cold, sweaty and unpleasant smelling during the day.

Tissue Salts

Take 4 tablets under the tongue three times daily

  • Kali phos should be used for irritated skin ailments such as burning. Kali phos is a major constituent of the nerves.
  • Calc Sulph is useful for burning and itchy soles of the feet. Unhealthy skin is also typical for this remedy.
  • Use Kali sulph for burning feet associated with rheumatic pains that shift, are better while moving but worse in warm atmosphere and at night.
  • Nat sulph is helpful when burning soles are associated with swelling, there can also be itching. Generally, dampness and wet weather aggravate the constitution.

External/Physical Therapies

Because lead poisoning, polycythemia, fungal or candida infections and syringomyelia cause burning feet, a medical diagnosis and – or hair mineral analysis and fungal infections testing should rule out any of these problems first, before applying any external or herbal therapies.

The burning feet syndrome experienced by our aging population is caused by structured vessels. Alternating hot and cold thyme foot baths help relieve this problem. Put feet in hot bath for three minutes and them in cold for three seconds. Repeat for twenty minutes.

Stress can also play a role in overtired feet to feel like they are burning. Get plenty of rest is important and walk barefoot on lawns, sandy beaches or natural fibre mats. Avoid walking barefoot on concrete or synthetic carpets.

Rest, cool compresses and raising the legs will provide some relief.
